Online entrepreneurship courses have risen in popularity to satisfy the educational endeavors of those looking to boot strap a business venture. In this post, I’ve listed the top emerging entrepreneurial resources that provide free online learning courses.
Regardless if you are planning a small website or a large brick and mortar business, its imperative that you learn the ins and outs of entrepreneurship. By strengthening your understanding of the entrepreneurial process, you’ll be less likely to make a mistake.
EdX – Entrepreneurship 101 and 102
EdX courses are taught by some of the top professors in the world. EdX’s Entrepreneurship 101 and 102 courses are designed for students to be able to do the coursework on their own schedule. The on-demand environment at EdX is a fantastic alternative to a traditional classroom because it allows entrepreneurs to take the classes whenever they have free time.
With EdX’s entrepreneurial courses, those who complete the course receive a $1,000 credit to Amazon Web Services. AWS is the largest cloud infrastructure provider in the world, therefore the $1,000 credit allows entrepreneurs to begin building apps, cloud services, websites and more!
Much like EdX, Udacity also offers free courses taught by top university professors. Udacity’s approach is similar in many ways to EdX, although Udacity has been around longer.
Udacity’s Lean Startup class is taught in short YouTube based video clips that include the likes of Professor Steve Blank and other prominent people within the entrepreneurship community.
Udacity lets you take the coursework at your own pace. Inside of Udacity’s Lean Startup course, students will gain insight into the most important part of running a startup business: Identifying your customer base.
When students gain the ability to get insight into the wants and needs of their customers, the only thing a startup must figure out is how to monetize the service or product with a reasonable profit margin.
When you complete Udacity’s Lean Startup course, you’ll often get answers to many of the questions you have in regards to how to approach your specific business sector, how to find customers and how to get feedback on your products without having to spend exuberant amount of startup capital.
I’d recommend doing Udacity’s Lean Startup course more than once, in order to gain additional insights that you might have missed the first time around.
MIT’s Open Courseware – Entrepreneurial Marketing
Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a leader in providing free courseware to students online. Over a decade ago, MIT began publishing free entrepreneurial courseware that allows students to gain access to graduate level material. One of the best courses released by MIT was taught by Professor Jin Gyo Kim and the course is titled Entrepreneurial Marketing.
Inside of MIT’s Entrepreneurial Marketing course, students can understand how to acquire customers. This course is a deep dive compared to the other two listed above. Although the course was first published in 2002, the underlying theories presented in this course are still prove to be relevant today. MIT’s Open Courseware gives you the same tools you’d enjoy as a student on campus, such as a syllabus, calendar, lecture notes and more.
